Day 23 - Bellagio 4th day

Tuesday, we decided we would go to Switzerland for lunch, as you do hereabouts. This involved taking the car on the ferry to Menaggio and driving the 28 km to Lugano just over the border. As Penny and I had been to Geneva we had already paid the €40 to go into Switzerland so today was a freebie.

Drove down to the ferry terminal and I went in to buy the ticket for Menaggio, no problem, 3 people 1 car €24 return, and that's when the fun started. The time table said that to get to Menaggio go via Varenna.  There are also 3 lines to park in at the ferry stop, 2 marked Cadenabbia and the other Varenna, so of course we parked in the latter. I asked if that was the correct lane and was told ok. The first ferry arrived and departed for Cadenabbia so of course ours was the next one for Menaggio via Varenna. When it arrives we trundle down the ramp, John asked one of the ferry guys if this was for Menaggio, he said no, not for cars and we needed to go to Cadenabbia which was only a short drive from Menaggio, confused yet, we were. When we worked it out, Menaggio was only for foot passengers and we did indeed need Cadenabbia, and that's we did.

Lugano though was a bit like Geneva, lake, shops, banks and restaurants. We did the standard walk around shops and then went and had some lunch. At least we can tick off Lugano......

The return home was easy and we stopped off at the local Miggros for dinner supplies, figs, serrano ham, peaches, crusty bread and salad greens. yum
