Early start from the Holiday Inn Express for the 25 minute run into the ferry terminal at Dover, although fine it was a little chilly but fortunately only mild seas and a 20 knot breeze in the channel.
I was slightly bemused that at no stage during the boarding process was any identification required at all, two passengers in the car was all that was required, we could have been anyone. So much for security, they did a cursory check of the car with a lifted bonnet but that was it.
The Pride of Canterbury is a fine P&O ferry that we have been on before, boarding was quick as it was not even half full and wih Penny on the quarterdeck quoting "fair stood the wind for France" we left Dover, eighty minutes later we were driving through Calais.
The satnav gave the distance to Dijon as 563 km with around 5 hours travel time. A week ago the "back" would have been complaining bitterly but with the resting up and being very careful with movement we sailed through the day with four short stops and arrived perfectly relaxed and happy. Thanks Sue and Penny.
We had expected Dijon to be just a stop on the way and not particularly attractive, how wrong can you be, it is a delightful place with character building and a very chic persona. Lots of bistros and outdoor restaurants it is a joy to be here, the hotel is very nice a great spot.
Lazy start tomorrow as Geneva is not far, however rain is forecast.
