When we watch "Escape to the Country" on TV they are always talking about the Jurassic Coast and Lulworth Cove so today we made it there. Lulworth is a pretty village but has more cafes and pubs than people who normally live there, but the scenery around the Cove is great. The beach on the Cove is pebbly and it was fun watching those who braved the cold water getting in and out without crippling themselves. The weather kept alternating between sun and gray and when the sun went in it was a little chilly. Just around from Lulworth is Durdle Door, this is the name of a natural arch which will eventually disappear into the sea but at the moment it is part of the Jurassic Coast scenery. The journey from the car park to the arch is downhill for 700m which was great, the only thing was it decided to rain so the 700m back up the hill was wet and fairly miserable but we did it none the worse for wear.
Later in the afternoon we went to Nothefort a citadel at one end of Weymouth Harbour. There had been a defensive structure on this site since the 16th century defending the harbour, so it ranged in armaments from cannon balls to a nuclear shelter in the 1950's. All run by volunteers but with an entrance fee, interesting place although a bit of a rabbit warren underground but spectacular views of Weymouth Harbour. Penny enjoyed pretending to shoot planes down!
