Day 59 - Sunday - Tour around the North

There are two major roads on Arran, one we travelled yesterday, the String Road, which cuts across the island east and west and the other is around the circumference mostly hugging the coast and in some places right next to the beach.

We all started the day on the southern half from Blackwaterfoot to Brodick, the weather was not kind and it rained all the way so we pulled into Arran Aromatics and the cheese shop for some undercover retail therapy. The actual scenery on the way was great and we decided to do it again on a dry day. At this point we split from the Wildes of Scotland and continued north around the top of Arran and came upon Sannox Glen. This is   an area of real beauty and there is forest and a protected area for red deer. Again the weather was drizzly and a place to come back to later in the week as there is a nice walk up into the glen.

Next stop was the Isle of Arran distillery for coffee and cake and the purchase of a 14 yo bottle of the best whiskey on the island, the coffee was nice too.

Continuing on we passed through some great place names, Lochranza, Catacol, Thundergay, Imachar and Machrie. The weather imposed, Penny made friends with a young hare and we went for a walk on the beach, then it was back to the lodge for a Marina home cooked meal. a good day.
