Today sees the start of the journey back to Coventry. We gave Robina and Jim's son Mark a lift to his work at the Edinburgh Evening News, we bought the paper at lunchtime and his story on the BNP political party was on the front page!
Edinburgh is a old city with a famous castle which is built on rock and is impregnable, the Royal Mile which leads from the castle down to Holyrood Royal Place and the new Scottish Parliament building. There are many beautiful building and little allyways which lead off the Royal Mile.

Edinburgh Castle Edinburgh from the castle....
on the castle wall take aim, fire....... !
Mons Meg and Penny
Mons Meg was cast in 1457 and was fired many times in anger. The stone ball was measured one time as landing 2 miles away.
It was last used in 1681 when the barrel burst.
We all stood around and waited for the noon gun which is fired every day from the castle ramparts. Of course they use a 105mm now instead cannon and when British Summer Time is in operation the gun is fired at 1pm. I spent about 5 minutes holding the camera still waiting the the firing and then......
Then we left Scotland and then headed for Blackpool and the illuminations. The Parisienne Hotel awaits......
We arrived at Blackpool at 7-20pm , checked in went to the room with the bags then went downstairs to check if we needed to book for dinner. They told that they stopped serving dinner at 7-30pm ....doh
still we managed to get something to eat........ but the weather! whoa, cats and dogs and wind
we went out to look at the lights in the rain with umbrellas in one hand and camera in the other...
