As we had a fairly easy drive up to Lanquaiss near Bergerac we took the time to go into the town of Auch itself, from pictures we’d seen it appeared picturesque and so it was. From the river where we parked to the main church and old town on the hill it is nice and of course there was a market. So feeling market deprived we walked around for quite a while, lots of clothes, hats and bags but really nice produce stalls included snails and truffles. As it was Pennys birthday there was this really interesting jewellery store……..!
The road we travelled this time was not a main highway so we were able to see lots of things and stop where we wanted including this old mill and weir, I’ve no idea where it is as I need wifi to interpret the map co-ordinates and the new gite for this week does not have any.
Speaking of the site it is very French and very pretty although the owner, Madame Ann, isa little brusque and I suspect a bit of a shark where money is concerned. An extra €30 for electricity and a €150 deposit for the house to be returned hopefully at the end of the week. Having said that though it is a nice house and we are enjoying it. As to the no wifi issue I booked this one and I failed, still we now have super fast internet at the Cafe De La Paix bar in Lalinde, have to have a drink or two though.....
Saturday night we went looking for a restaurant for Pennys birthday and we found one on the banks of the Dordogne river in Bergerac, and no John Nettles was nowhere to be seen but plenty of references to Cyrano. We both had steak and fries which was as good a meal as we have had so far in Europe, let the week begin…..!
